Active Vs. Passive Candidates: Credibled’s Path to Lead Generation and Business Growth

“Acquiring the right talent is the most important key to growth. Hiring was – and still is – the most important thing we do.” – Marc Benioff, Founder & CEO of Salesforce

In the world of recruitment, you constantly hear about the different types of candidates, that is to say, passive and active candidates. Here’s the thing though, no candidate is truly active or passive to the full extent of that definition. There is always some grey area or overlap. The fact of the matter is that as a recruiter, you are just trying to find the right candidate for the position. This candidate might be employed or unemployed, they might be looking or not, they might have a job but maybe they are just looking for a new opportunity, they may be looking but not necessarily ready to make the jump.

Whatever the case may be, you won’t know for sure until and unless a line of communication is established with said candidate. Being a recruiter in today’s market scenario comes with a lot of pressure, the job is harder than ever, the level of competition is much higher and the issue of time sensitivity is at the front of the line in terms of concern.

Hence, in this blog, we here at Credibled wanted to walk you through another option to make life a little easier. But, before we dive into the solution let’s have a look at the difference between active and passive candidates and the inherent issues that recruiters face.

Passive Candidates

Passive candidates make up around 70% of the global work force.

Active Candidates

An active candidate is someone who is well, ‘actively’ looking for work. Now it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are unemployed, but it tends to lean in that direction a lot of the time. This group of candidates could be looking for a new job for several different reasons. They could be concerned about their job security, they want a more challenging career, they need a better income or a hundred other reasons.

According to a 2019 LinkedIn report around 30 per cent of the fully employed workforce fell into this category of active workers. The thing about active candidates is that they aren’t the demographic that recruiters might be most concerned with given the nature of their job searching tendencies. The hardest part of recruiting is reaching the odd 70 per cent of passive candidates that are part of the active workforce as per the previously mentioned report.

"Do not hire a man who does your work for money, but him who does it for love of it."

- Henry David Thoreau, American Naturalist

Passive Candidates

To set up a baseline definition for passive candidates, we can consider them as employed or unemployed, either way, they are not looking for a job or looking to switch. Now, while they do make up such a large portion of the workforce and are relatively harder to tap into as a pool of candidates, there is an upside here.

Given the fact that they are not actively looking for a job, they probably won’t be interviewing with anyone anytime soon. This leaves you with a massive talent pool with lots of potential if you know how to tap into it. This is where Credibled comes in with the aforementioned easier road for you to take as a recruiter.

Credibled can help you target the large pool of passive candidates in the job market.

What Can Credibled Do For You?

Credibled is essentially an automated reference checking platform that is unlike other software on the market. In that, it is particularly suited to aiding you in targeting and engaging the large pool of passive candidates out there in the job market. Yes, it is mainly centered around the purpose of cross-checking references and facilitating that whole back and forth in an automated fashion.

However, at the end of the reference checking process, the referee gets a bonus benefit where they can opt to become an employer down the line. They can give Credibled the relevant information so that we can get in touch with them if they are ever in the market for fresh talent. On the other hand, they can opt to be a job seeker as well and avail of Credibled’s services in that manner.

Typically though, we target referees who are in a position to be considered a hiring authority themselves. Either way, the Credibled platform gives recruiters the added benefit of lead generation by helping them convert a referee into a potential client who might become a future employer or candidate. So, in that sense, Credibled makes the lives of recruiters easier through lead generation and generating business opportunities.

What Recruiters Can Look Forward to

As a recruiter, you can enjoy the dual benefit that Credibled brings to the table. As we mentioned previously in the above paragraphs, on the one hand, you can easily build a pipeline of passive candidates, on the other you build sales by targeting referees. More so than that, since Credibled targets these referees who are in positions of hiring authority, recruiters can establish direct lines of connection and communication with the top brass across whatever industry they cater to.

At the end of the day, Credibled is a simple, efficient and necessary tool if you want to get ahead in the recruitment game as it works well beyond just automated reference checking.
